CHARLESTON, SC – The Manhattan Jaspers baseball team (1-5, 0-0 MAAC) fell to the Buccaneers of Charleston Southern University (4-1, 0-0 Big South) by a score of 18-1 in the middle game of the three-game set on Saturday afternoon from Nielsen Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Manhattan got things going in the visiting half of the first inning with a two-out infield single from senior Andreaus Lewis. The Jaspers moved into scoring position, with Lewis advancing to second base following a wild pitch.
- Starting pitcher Brad Grasser retired the side to open up the home half of the first inning, highlighted by a swinging strikeout to close out the first.
- To open the third inning, Aidan Taclas collected a single to the left side. After advancing to third following a pair of batters, Ryan Lordier reached on an error by a Buccaneers outfielder to bring home Taclas from the hot corner.
- In the sixth inning, Arnav Ghuliani made his Jaspers debut by retiring the side, which was highlighted by two swinging strikeouts.
STATS AND NOTES
- Senior Andreaus Lewis powered the Jaspers from the plate with a pair of base hits in three plate appearances.
- The Jaspers logged eight total hits in the afternoon and earned four walks in the day.
- Freshman Colin Basehore swiped his second career base on Saturday afternoon.
