HAMDEN, CT - The Manhattan softball team split their Saturday doubleheader at Quinnipiac winning game one 4-1, before dropping game two 4-3.
Game One – Manhattan 4, Quinnipiac 1
The Jaspers got the first game of the day started in the top of the first when Lindsey Hoag drove in Lauren Rende with a triple. Rende would get involved once again in the third inning when she drove in Anissa Villalobos with a double to make the score 2-0. Quinnipiac would score their first run of the game in the fifth inning with an RBI double to make the score 2-1. In the sixth, Manhattan would load the bases with two outs for Gabriella Mazzotta. Mazzotta would convert with a single to bring in a run to give the Jaspers a two-run edge. Manhattan would get one more insurance run in the seventh from a sacrifice fly from Sophia Kiseloski. Quinnipiac was unable to score another run, giving the Jaspers a 4-1 victory.
Mollie Charest picked up the win in game one for the Jaspers, throwing five innings and allowing one run. Alexandra Hess came in to throw two shutout innings to end the game.
Game Two – Quinnipiac 4, Manhattan 3
In game two, Quinnipiac got off to an early 2-0 lead in the second innings, coming via an RBI double, followed by an RBI single. This would remain the score until the fourth when Megan Hedlund hit a double, driving in two runs to tie the game 2-2. Hoag contributed with a sacrifice fly in the fifth, giving the Jaspers a 3-2 lead. Quinnipiac would score a run in the sixth with an RBI single, tying the game going into the final frame. Following a scoreless Manhattan inning, Quinnipiac would get a runner into scoring position, before sending up pinch hitter Ally Hochstadter. She would walk off the game with a triple, winning the game for Quinnipiac and setting up a decisive game three tomorrow.
Karissa pitched five innings for the Jaspers letting up one run in five innings. Sydney Horan picked up the win for the Bobcats pitching a complete game.
UP NEXT: The Jaspers will play their third and final game of the series at Quinnipiac tomorrow at noon.
