Men's Hoops Welcomes Iona, Canisius

RIVERDALE, N.Y. - The Manhattan men's basketball team (6-21, 3-15 MAAC) hosts a pair of MAAC games to end the regular season. The Jaspers welcome cross-town rival Iona on Thursday, followed by Canisius on Saturday for Senior Day.

The Preview: The all-time series between Manhattan and Iona has the Jaspers trailing 31-17. Manhattan is on a two-game losing streak over the Gales. The Jaspers are 10-11 against the Gaels at home. Last time out, Manhattan played Iona on Feb. 16, falling 73-63. Manhattan was led by Seydou Traore who scored 20 points and pulled down nine rebounds. Daniel Rouzan scored nine points for the Jaspers, while Jaden Winston added five points and 11 assists.

The all-time series between Manhattan and Canisius has the Jaspers leading 23-20. Manhattan is on a one-game losing streak over the Griffins. The Jaspers are 12-9 against Canisius at home. Last time out, Manhattan played Canisus on Jan 26, 2024, with a 70-82 loss. Seydou Traore took charge for the Jaspers with 17 points, seven rebounds and four assists.

The Opponent: Iona (14-15, 9-9 MAAC) is seventh in the league standings having won 71-64 over Marist in its last game, snapping a four-game losing streak. The Gaels are first in the MAAC in assists (14.45) and first in assist/turnover ratio (1.40). Greg Gordon leads Iona in scoring with 16.0 points per game - 6th in the MAAC - and 7.3 rebounds per game. Idan Tretout averages 13.9 points.

Canisius is 12-16, 7-11 in the MAAC for ninth in the standings. One game ahead of the Jaspers. The Griffs are third in the MAAC in rebounds (36.8) and fourth in the MAAC in 3-point field goals made with 7.5 per game. Tre Dinkins leads Canisius with 15.1 points per game - 7th in the MAAC, while Siem Uijtendaal has 13.3 points.

Leading the Way: Shaquille Bender had 14 points for Manhattan at Saint Peter's on Sunday. Daniel Rouzan had 12 and Seydou Traore added 11. Bender leads Manhattan in overall scoring at 13.5 points per game.

By the Numbers: Manhattan enters the week ranked second in opponent free throw percentage (.751), third in assists (14.04), and fifth in steals (7.48).
Individually, Traore ranks second in the MAAC in blocked shots (1.2) and second in rebounding (8.1). Rouzan ranks eighth in field goal percentage (.523). Jaden Winston ranks third in assists (4.6) and second in steals (2.2). Shaquil Bender is ninth in scoring (13.5).
