Softball Drops Two at Home

RIVERDALE, N.Y. - The Manhattan softball team hosted two games against conference foe Niagara, taking two losses, 7-4 and 7-1.

Game 1 – Niagara 7, Manhattan 4 (10 Innings)

After a scoreless, first inning, Niagara got things started with an RBI double in the second. Niagara would take the 1-0 lead into the fourth where they would get an RBI single in the top of the inning to make it 2-0. The Jaspers got on the board in the bottom of the inning via an RBI double from Sophia Kiseloski. Niagara would get a solo home run in the fifth to make it 3-1, before in the bottom of the inning, Lauren Rende would steal home, following a walk. The Purple Eagles added an insurance run in the sixth, via a groundout. In the sixth, Paige McLaughlin recorded a pinch hit RBI double, to narrow the gap to one entering the seventh. In the bottom of the seventh Maddy Weir answered the bell with a solo home run to send the game into extras. 

After two scoreless innings to begin extras, the Purple Eagles made a big splash with a three-run home run, followed by a scoreless Manhattan inning, awarding Niagara game one 7-4. 

Julia Thompson recorded the win for Niagara, while Mollie Charest got the loss for Manhattan.

Game 2 - Niagara 7, Manhattan 1

The Purple Eagles would pour on seven runs through five innings, including a solo home run, and a bases loaded double from Sophia Marrero. Manhattan would score in the bottom of the fifth, when Bella Cahuegue launched a solo shot to left field. Unfortunately, the Jaspers could not rally anything together following the slam, leaving them with a 7-1 loss in game two.

Maddie Hickingbottom picked up for the Purple Eagles, while Sophia Kiseloski recorded the loss for Manhattan. 

UP NEXT: The Jaspers will begin conclude the series with a game Sunday against the Purple Eagles at 11 a.m. at Gaelic Park.
