BOCA RATON, FL– The Manhattan Jaspers women's basketball team (5-2, 0-0 MAAC) fell to the Owls of Florida Atlantic University (5-2, 0-0 American) by a score of 65-50 inside Abessinino Court at Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena on Friday afternoon.
The Jaspers' setback snaps a five-game winning streak, the best six-game start under head coach Heather Vulin.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Senior forward Petra Juric got the Jaspers on the scoreboard roughly 90 seconds into the contest on a perfect distribution from freshman guard Claudia Jimenez.
- The Jaspers kept the Owls within arms-length with a three-pointer from Tegan Young, who brought the deficit to just one before Mya Perry brought it back to a two-possession game.
- After trailing by as much as eight points, the deep ball kept Manhattan afloat. Claudia Jimenez hit her first collegiate three-point basket before Brianna Davis made it a three-point game midway through the second stanza.
- A span of nearly five minutes in the latter stages of the second quarter saw both teams remain idle on the scoresheet until the waning seconds as FAU and Manhattan traded baskets.
- Despite their second-half heroics through the first six games of the season, the Jaspers could not keep FAU off the scoring column, as the Owls put a bow on the contest with a 13-0 run and put the game out of reach down the stretch.
