BALTIMORE, M.D. — Manhattan rolled to a fifth straight win by defeating UMBC by A final score of 60-50 on Sunday afternoon at Chesapeake Employers Insurance Arena. After a slow start to the game for both teams, the Jaspers outscored the Terriers by 11 points the rest of the way to improve to 5-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED

Manhattan was held scoreless for nearly three minutes until a three-pointer by Hana Muhl at 7:01 cut the Jaspers' early deficit to 4-3.

After Petra Juric hit the bench with two early fouls, UMBC jumped out to a 9-3 lead at the 4:08 mark following a three from Jordon Lewis.

A 7-0 Manhattan run capped by a three from Nitzan Amar gave the Jaspers their first lead at 10-9. Then, UMBC retook the lead on a lay-up by Lewis to end the first quarter on top, 11-10.

Young began the second quarter with a three-pointer that seized a 13-11 lead for Manhattan. The defense started to clamp down, and Manhattan was able to open a 22-15 lead following a lay-up plus the foul for Muhl with 5:17 left in the second quarter.

A thrashing lay-up by Young put the finishing touches on a 9-0 run which extended Manhattan's lead to 24-15.

Manhattan stayed aggressive down low, with Kristina Juric and Ozturk scoring the final two baskets of the second quarter to send the Jaspers into the locker room with a 30-19 lead.

Petra got on the board with a basket inside to start the third quarter before a three from Amar opened up a 35-21 lead two minutes into the third quarter.

A three from Young made the score 42-26 in favor of the Jaspers before UMBC responded with a 9-0 run over the final 2:40 of the third quarter to cut the Manhattan lead to seven entering the fourth quarter.

The closest UMBC came in the final stanza was five back following an early fourth-quarter basket from Talia Davis.

Amar took over down the stretch, scoring eight of Manhattan's last 12 points to help secure the win.

Manhattan's 5-1 start is its best since starting 5-1 during the 2004-05 season.

Muhl pulled down a career-high 13 rebounds, easily beating her previous high of 7.

Ozturk stuffed the stat sheet for the Jaspers by recording 8 points, 9 rebounds, and season-highs in steals (3) and blocks (5).

Young and Amar led the Jaspers in scoring with 14 points each while Ozturk, Juric and Muhl contributed 8 apiece.

Manhattan recorded eight blocks as a team, upping their season average to 5.1 blocks per game (1st in MAAC).

Manhattan has won all 5 of its games with opponents shooting under 40 percent and averaging 36.2 percent from the field.

The Jaspers will travel to Boca Raton, Florida to face FAU on Friday, Nov. 29 for the first of two games in the Thanksgiving Classic. The next day, Jaspers will square off with Austin Peay at FAU's Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena. Both games will be aired on ESPN+.
