Buffalo, NY — Manhattan dropped a tight first set (25-21) before dropping the last two on its way to a 3-0 loss to Canisius on Saturday afternoon at the Koessler Center.
In set one, the Jaspers trailed 18-11 before cutting the deficit to four points following three straight kills from Maike Bertens, Katie Powers and Chloe Anderson. The Jaspers would get back to within 4 four more times over the course of the back-and-forth set.
Manhattan would later drop sets two and three by 14-point and 9-point margins, respectively. In set two, Canisius had scoring runs of 3, 4 and 5 points which fueled the commanding set win. The Jaspers jumped out to a 5-2 lead in set three, but the Golden Griffins clawed their way back and eventually pulled away to clinch the three-set victory.
Maike Bertens led Manhattan in kills with 12 while Katie Powers and Laila Glover combined for 10. Sophia Lotto supplied seven digs, while Bertens chipped in the same defensively. Canisius was powered by 10 kills and 6 digs from Lauren Hubert, and Ella Bourque and Niccola Bozzini teamed up for 35 assists for the Golden Griffins.

Manhattan will conclude their stay in Western New York with a match-up with Niagara (12-12, 8-5 MAAC) on Sunday. The action begins at 1 PM and will be streamed live on ESPN+.
