Manhattan got the better of Iona on Wednesday afternoon in a 3-0 result at Gaelic Park, propelling the Jaspers into the playoffs on a two-game winning streak. The Jaspers' offensive eruption came early, featuring a trio of goals in the first half to reach the end result.
Manhattan's opening goal came in the 8th minute from Sami Derrico when Amaya Hill brilliantly set up the senior forward on a cross into the box from the left side. Hill stayed active attacking the left flank, and less than 11 minutes later she linked up with Mayah Wheeler who found Nicolette Caneda for a header to put Manhattan up 2-0.
Manhattan wrapped up the scoring in the 37th minute when Reina Callahan cleaned up a free kick played into the box by Julia Nicholas. Callahan's first goal came at a fitting time as she played her final regular-season game at Gaelic.
The Jaspers clinched the No. 5 seed and will visit No. 4 Siena on Sunday, Nov. 3 at 1 p.m. The last meeting between both teams ended in a 3-0 win for the Saints in Loudonville on October 16th.
