Box Score BUFFALO, N.Y. - The Manhattan College men's basketball team fell short against Canisius University, 82-70 on a Friday night.
Seydou Traore took charge for the Jaspers (4-13, 1-7 MAAC) with 17 points, seven rebounds and four assists. Daniel Rouzan and Shaquil Bender added 11 points apiece. Canisius (8-11, 3-6 MAAC) was led in scoring by Frank Mitchell with 21 points and 15 rebounds. Tre Dinkins added 18 points and five rebounds.
In the first half, Canisius and Manhattan went back and forth in an offensive heavy period. The battle resulted in a 41-41 tie at the end of the period.
Canisius jumped to a double-digit lead in the second half, gaining a 59-49 edge with 14:03 remaining in the contest. The Jaspers could not continue their hot shooting from the first half, letting the lead get as high as 17, trailing 70-53 with 9:18 to play. Manhattan would cut it down to nine with 4:05 remaining, but could not string a run together to complete a second half comeback.
Manhattan shot 45% from the floor and 33.3% from three-point. They recorded 40 points in the paint and 14 bench points.
Canisius shot 53.2% from the floor and 33.3 % from three-point. They recorded 46 points in the paint and 11 bench points.
Manhattan will travel to Niagara Falls to play Niagara University on Sunday, January 28, at 2 p.m.
