RIVERDALE, N.Y. - The Manhattan College men's basketball team fell to Saint Peter's 81-68 at Draddy Gymnasium in another conference tilt.
The Jaspers (4-11, 1-5 MAAC) were led in scoring by
Daniel Rouzan who recorded a career-high 22 points, six rebounds, and four assists.
Shaquil Bender added 12 points, seven rebounds, and five assists for Manhattan.
Briggs McClain added 14 points and five rebounds.
Saint Peter's (9-5, 5-0 MAAC) was led by Corey Washington who scored 17 points and had seven rebounds. Roy Clarke added 15 points off the bench for the Peacocks.
"Saint Peter's found ways to win, they shoot better than you think, and they were tougher. I give them a lot of credit," said
Coach Gallagher. "As for Manhattan, it is one of those years where things have gone wrong but at the same time, it gives opportunities to the other guys. Are margins are very slim. If we look at this weekend we got better. There's no question."
Through the first ten minutes of the game, the teams stayed close, with Saint Peter's having the slight edge, leading 17-12. The Peacocks then began to open it up, extending their lead up to 34-17 with 4:51 remaining in the half. However, this would be Saint Peter's last point of the half. Manhattan would hit a jumper with 3:38 remaining that would start an 11-0 run to end the half, closing the gap to six, as they would trail 34-28 at the break.
The teams opened the second half trading baskets, in a back and forth first few minutes of the half. The Jaspers were able to cut the deficit down to two when McCalin hit a three-pointer to make the score 45-43 Peacocks. Saint Peter's responded immediately, going on a 10-2 run to extend their lead up to double-digits, 55-45, with 9:51 remaining. The Jaspers were unable to cut back into the deficit, eventually taking the 81-68 defeat.
Manhattan shot 42.9% from the field and 28% from three-point. They had 26 points in the paint and 12 bench points.
Saint Peter's shot 46.6% from the field and 33.3% from three-point. They had 38 points in the paint and 25 bench points.
Manhattan will return to action Sunday, Jan. 21 at 2 p.m. for another home MAAC contest, taking on Fairfield.
