Box Score 2 Ogden, U.T. - Manhattan College lost its first two season openers on the road against Saint Mary's College of California and Weber State University at the Wildcat Invitational. The Jaspers will have another opportunity tomorrow to secure a win in the Wildcat Invitational before taking part in the Red Flash Classic
"We knew going out west was going to present us with tough opponents. Though the outcome of the two matches was disappointing, there were moments of greatness that made us excited for the future. Our team is still adjusting to the 10 new additions, but we are confident that with additional practices and games our team will hit their stride and find the rhythm needed to become successful in the future of this season", said head coach Mauro Miletic.
In the initial match against the Gales, the Jaspers conceded the first two sets by significant margins to the formidable Gales. However, in the third and final set of the game, the Jaspers went on a 12-to-3 run against the Gales, closing the gap to two points, 17-5. This streak was initiated by a kill from
Laila Glover, followed by an ace by second-year player
Sarah Emmons. Emmons would go on to serve six more times before the Gales scored due to a service error.
Despite this hard-fought effort, the Jaspers ultimately lost the match 25-19, which was the closest of the three sets.
The second match of the day against the Wildcats played out differently than the previous one. The Jaspers lost the first two sets by more than 10 points each, only managing to narrow the gap to just 10 points in the third set.
Emmons led the team in the first match against the Gales in terms of assists, delivering an impressive total of 24 assists.
Camila Gomez led the Jaspers in kills with 15, followed by
Elenoa Sing with eight.
Manhattan will return to the court on Saturday, August 16th, for a 12 p.m. MT match against Utah Tech University.
