RANDALL'S ISLAND, N.Y. – The Manhattan men's track and field team will return to Riverdale with a third-place finish in the 2023 Outdoor Metropolitan Championships at Icahn Stadium.
Manhattan returns to the track next week at the Larry Ellis Invite, hosted by Princeton.
"The Met Championship is always a key meet on our schedule." said Director of Track
Kerri Inman (Gallagher). "Today was a great opportunity to execute point scoring as we continue to prepare for the MAAC Championships. I'm very happy with both team's podium finishes today."
The 5000m winner this afternoon was
Michael Hennelly, finishing four seconds ahead of second place with a time of 14:41.02. In the field,
Ivan Lytovchenko won the high jump, clearing 2 meters.
RJ Decker won the weight throw by over nine meters, finishing with a top throw of 60.07.
Joseph Pelio (49.33) and Corpuz (48.74) finished in fifth and sixth.
Noah Jefferson turned in a second-place performance in the 400m, finishing in 48.34. Sixth, seventh, and eighth also belonged to the Jaspers'
Brian Shemar Saul (50.20),
Quemarii Williams (50.45), and
Harrison Alonzo (50.63).
The 4x100m relay team of
Kaya Simpson, Jefferson, Saul and
Shane McCorry turned in third with a time of 42.03.
Jefferson also dashed to a fifth-place finish in the 200m with a time of 22.0. Saul took home ninth in the same event with a time of 22.83.
Second and third place in the 110m hurdles belongs to Simpson (15.28) and
O'Dell Holland, Jr. (16.07). Simpson also finished in third in the 400m hurdles, crossing the finish line in 56.89.
Johnelle Joe finished the 800m in 1:54.64, which was good for sixth place.
Peter Athanailos finished the shot put in eighth with a top throw of 13.93.
Myron Corpuz tossed a 12.72 throw, which got him tenth. Athanalios finished the discus in ninth with a top throw of 39.30
