Jaspers Split Saturday in Lubbock

LUBBOCK, Texas – Manhattan split the second day of the Red Raider Classic with a win over Buffalo and a loss to Texas Tech.

Game 1: Manhattan 4, Buffalo 2
Buffalo scored twice in the first inning before Manhattan scored twice in the fifth and seventh innings to collect the comeback win.

Kaitlin Flood had three RBI in the game. The second two were the game-winning ones in the top of the seventh. Flood connected on her first homer of the season with one on and two away to break the two-two tie.

Flood's first RBI hit of the day came in the fifth, which tied the game at two. Flood's single followed a two-out RBI double from Gabriella Mazzotta. Mazzotta's double made it 2-1 before Flood tied it.

Sophia Kiseloski picked up her first collegiate win after tossing a complete game for the Jaspers. Kiseloski gave up the two runs in the first but shut down the Bulls' offense over the final six innings. The right-hander did not walk a batter and struck out eight.

Game 2: Texas Tech 13, Manhattan 5 (5 innings)
Manhattan started fast against Texas Tech with five runs over the first two innings. The Red Raiders responded with five in the second, two in the third, and six more in the fourth.

Lauren Rende capped the three-run first inning for the Green and White with a two-RBI double. Megan Hedlund and Marika Deemer scored. Those were Rende's first two RBI of 2023.

Flood built on her strong performance in the first game with two more RBI and went 2-for-3 at the plate. Flood made it 5-0 Manhattan with a double down the left-field line in the second.

Makinzy Herzog belted a grand slam in the bottom of the second to bring the Red Raiders within one. The next batter was Kailey Wyckoff, and she made it back-to-back homers to tie the game at five.

The offense kept coming for the Red Raiders. An RBI single and a bases-loaded walk brought home the two runs in the fourth. Four of the six runs in the bottom of the fifth came via a second grand slam for Tech. This one came from Arriana Villa.

Flood and Deemer finished with two hits in game two. Five different players scored the five Manhattan runs.

Manhattan finishes its weekend in Lubbock tomorrow at 11 a.m. eastern against Buffalo.
