Men's Track and Field Captures Indoor Mets Title

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – The 2023 men's Indoor Metropolitan Champions are the Manhattan College Jaspers.

Manhattan finished with 117 points, squeaking by the second-place finisher, Rowan, who garnered 116 points. Fordham finished with 112 points for third place.

"Today was a great opportunity to compete against good competition with the pressure of points and a team performance on the line," Said Director of Cross Country/ Track and Field Kerri Gallagher. "Today's win was very productive and a lot of fun. This team earned it!"

The meet came down to the final event of the afternoon, the 4x400 relay. The Jaspers relay team of Noah Jefferson, Brian Oduor, Jay Glenn and Harrison Alonzo rose to the occasion, edging out the team from Fordham by less than one second, with Alonzo running the anchor, crossing the finish line at 3:18.91.

Johnelle Joe won his first 800m as a Jasper in 1:53.76, which is good for an IC4A qualifying time. In the same event, Andrew Simard earned the Jaspers some points with a fourth-place finish in 1:56.91.

Justin Jordaens set a new PR for himself in the 1000m, winning the event with a final time of 2:29.49.

Other top performers on the track include Kaya Simpson taking second in the 60m with a time of 6.94, which qualifies him for IC4A's as well as a new PR for the senior sprinter. In the 400m, Noah Jefferson also garnered a new PR en route to a third-place finish, finishing in 49.85. In the same event, Alonzo and Glenn also racked up new PRs while finishing in fifth and seventh with times of 50.16 and 50.94.

Michael Hennelly continues his strong indoor season with a 3000m PR of 8:30.33.

In the field, RJ Decker cracked the 20-meter mark again today, winning the weight throw with a top throw of 20.39m. Myron Corpuz finished in seventh with a top mark of 15.03m. Gabriel Igbokwe finished in second in the triple jump with a new PR of 12.88m.

Manhattan returns to action next week to compete in the Milrose games.
