RIVERDALE, N.Y. – Manhattan visits Princeton on Tuesday night after a 6-5 win at Navy on Saturday.
The Jaspers and Tigers will meet at 6 p.m. on ESPN+ from Sherrerd Field at Class of 1952 Stadium.
After beating Navy on Saturday, the Jaspers received votes in the latest USILA Poll released Monday. It is the second straight season that Manhattan has received votes in one of the national polls.
Manhattan scored five unanswered goals to win at Navy on Saturday.
Joseph Persico made a career-high 22 saves in the victory.
Liam Walshe had a hat trick that came with consecutive goals to tie the game at five with seven minutes remaining. Tagdh O'Riordan scored the game-winner for the Jaspers with exactly one minute remaining in regulation. Ten of Persico's 22 saves came after halftime, and the graduate student held Navy scoreless over the final 26 minutes.
Princeton enters the matchup 1-0 after opening its season with a 22-9 win over Monmouth. The Tigers, who made the Final Four last season, sit No. 4/3 in the latest USILA and Inside Lacrosse Polls. Alexander Vardaro had seven points—five goals—to lead the Tiger offense against the Hawks on Saturday. Thirteen different players recorded a point for Princeton in the win.
After the first two weeks of play, Manhattan is one of 18 teams still undefeated in Division I.
The Jaspers have the nation's best defense giving up five goals per game over their first two. UMass is second at 5.5 per game.
Persico was named MAAC Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts against the Midshipmen on Saturday. It is the second weekly award of the season for the Jaspers.
Liam McDonough was named MAAC Face-off Player of the Week last week.
The netminder leads Division I in save percentage (.783) and goals against (5.00) through two games. Against Navy, the graduate student posted a .815 save percentage. Emmett Carroll of Penn holds second place at 0.720. Persico is second in the country and leading the MAAC in saves per game (18.0).
Walshe's two hat tricks puts the graduate student second in the MAAC in goals per game (3.0).
After Tuesday, the Jaspers host NJIT on Saturday in the home opener at Gaelic Park.
