Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

YOUNGSVILLE, La. – The Manhattan softball dropped a pair of games on Saturday as part of the Mardi Gras Mambo in Louisiana. The Jaspers are now 0-4 on the young season.

Game 1 – Northwestern State 5, Manhattan 0
The Demons and Jaspers were scoreless until the fifth inning in the first game of the day for both teams.

Northwestern State struck for three in the fifth to break the ice. Laney Roos doubled to left-center to drive in one. Roos and Makenzie Chaffin then come around to score on an error for the second and third runs.

Back-to-back RBI singles brought in two runs for Northwestern State in the sixth. Ballie Ragsdale drove in the first one on a single to right-center. Roos followed with a single back up the middle to score Ragsdale, who stole second.

The Jaspers' best chance to score came in the bottom of the seventh. Manhattan loaded the bases with a Lilly Fish single, a Megan Hedlund walk, and when Gabriella Mazzotta reached on an error. However, the next two hitters struck out before Jamie Falotico grounded out to short to end the game.

Makayla Veneziale went five innings and took the loss after allowing only one earned run. Ryleigh Denton picked up the win for Northwestern State.

Game 2 – Houston Christian 8, Manhattan 0 (5 innings)
Houston Christian scored twice in the second and added six more in the third to pick up the win.

In the six-run third, the first three hitters all reached and scored for the Huskies. The fourth run of the frame came via a sacrifice fly from Autumn Sydlik. The final two runs were scored with two outs in the frame.

Manhattan was limited to only two baserunners in the game. Gabriella Mazzotta led off the home half of the first with a double but was stranded there. Sophia Kiseloski drew a one-out walk in the third.

The Jaspers return to the diamond on Sunday for the fifth and final game in Louisiana against Nicholls at 12 p.m. eastern.
