NEW YORK, N.Y. – The 2023 Indoor MAAC Championships came to a close Sunday evening at the Armory, and
Ivan Lytovchenko was crowned the MAAC Field Rookie of the Meet as the Manhattan men's track and field team finished in fourth with 80 points.
Rider finished first with 193 points, while Mount St. Mary's finished second with 140 points, and third belonged to Iona with 105 points.
All events this afternoon were the finals.
Justin Jordaens finished in ninth in 4:18.63 in the mile run.
Kaya Simpson earned the Jaspers four points in the 60m hurdles, taking fourth in 8.32. His other event this evening was the 60m dash, which he also finished in fourth for five points in 6.91.
In the 800m, all three Jaspers who qualified for the finals earned points.
Noah Jefferson earned himself a silver medal, finishing in 48.95. The other two Jasper runners were
Harrison Alonzo, who finished in fifth, garnering four points in 48.94, and
Brian Shermar Saul earned two points in seventh with a 50.50.
Jefferson also came in sixth in the 200m, crossing the finish line in 22.29.
Michael Hennelly finished in ninth with a time of 8:34.03.
The 4x800 relay team of
Andrew Simard,
Harrison Alonzo, Jordaens, and
Quemarii Williams finished in 7:58.35 for fifth place. The Jasper 4x400 relay team of Jefferson,
Brian Oduor,
Jay Glenn, and
Harrison Alonzo earned bronze medals, finishing the relay in 3:19.79.
In the field,
Gabriel Igbokwe took fifth in the triple jump with a top mark of 13.93m on his second leap.
Peter Athanailos finished just short of a bronze medal in the shot put, coming in fourth with a top distance of 14.34m.
The indoor season continues at IC4As, scheduled for March 4-5 in Boston.
