BRONX, NY - The Manhattan men's basketball team fell to Fordham, 93-61, in the Battle of the Bronx matchup at Rose Hill on Monday night.
The Jaspers (3-3) were led in scoring by
Daniel Rouzan who had 15 points.
Briggs McClain added 10 points and 4 rebounds.
Manhattan started off strong in the first half getting the Jasper fans in attendance off their feet and cheering them on. The Jaspers managed 32 points on the court while collecting 12 defensive rebounds, and making all of their free-throw attempts.
"We have to be a program that understands how to attack pressure," said Head Coach
John Gallagher. "I think we did it 80 percent of the time but it has to be 100 percent. We will take the lesson of this game and it will make us stronger going forward."
Fordham (3-3) was able to go on a run in the second portion of the first half, leading to a 14-point lead with 51 seconds to go, its largest lead of the half. The Rams held a 47-36 advantage at the break.
Manhattan returned in the second half going back to attacking the paint. Every time the Jaspers got a burst of energy, the Rams responded with a basket of their own, eventually able to keep the Jaspers at bay and win the Battle of the Bronx contest.
Fordham was led in scoring by Japhet Medor who registered 16 points, 6 assists, and 3 steals. Elijah Gray recorded 15 points and 7 rebounds, while Kyle Rose added 14 points and 4 steals.
Manhattan opens Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play this Friday at Draddy. Tip time versus Mount St. Mary's is set for 7 p.m. It will be Campus Ministry Night and Latin Night.
