WASHINGTON, D.C. - Manhattan women's basketball (3-2) defeated Howard University (1-7) today at Burr Gymnasium.
The Jaspers fourth-quarter comeback led them to a gritty 53-50 victory. The win brings them to 2-1 in away games on the season. Leading the Jaspers was
Nitzan Amar scoring a game-high 25 points and recording 5 rebounds.
Tegan Young added 10 points while
Jade Blagrove was active on the glass, pulling down 11 rebounds.
The Jaspers had a rough start in the first half shooting 30 percent from the field, leading to a 27-20 halftime deficit. Manhattan stayed level with Howard in the third quarter, going into the fourth trailing 39-32. Manhattan had a strong final quarter, outscoring the Bison by ten to secure the road comeback victory. The Jaspers were trailing 45-38 with 5:05 remaining and went on a 15-5 run to finish the game. Amar scored 12 of those 15 points coming up huge when it mattered most.
"Tremendous gut-check win against a very good Howard team on the road," said Head Coach
Heather Vulin. "Nitzan was incredible in the second half and our team found a way to win when our shots were not falling."
Howard shot 30.5 percent from the field goal and 33.3 percent from the 3-point line as a team. Their charge was led by Tyana Walker who finished with 18 points and 3 steals. Nile Miller added 8 points and 4 steals for the Bison.
Manhattan will return home to play UMBC this Sunday, Dec. 3. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
