JAMAICA, N.Y. - Manhattan women's basketball (2-2) fell short to St John's (2-2) today at the Carnesecca Arena.

The women's basketball team scored first, jumping out to a 3-0 lead at St. John's. The Red Storm were able to take control of the game and never relinquished the lead after that.

The Jaspers trailed at the break, 32-20. Manhattan scored 27 points in the second half, but it was not enough to trump the Red Storm on the road.

"We started good in the first two minutes then got timid. Then they went on a run." said Coach Heather Vulin. "Then we responded well in the second quarter. Third quarter they only out scored by 1 point. You have to give credit to Drake who scored 30 pts. She had a great shooting game."

Forward Jade Balgrove led the Jaspers in scoring with 16 points of 6-of-8 shooting. She added four rebounds and two assists. Guard Nitzan Amar had seven points, five rebounds and four assists. Manhattan shot 37.7 percent from the floor, then struggled from long range with 17.7 percent.

Unique Drake led the way for St. John's with 30 points. Jillian Archer added 13 points and seven rebounds. The Red Storm shot 45.3 percent from the field and 45.8 percent from three-point range.

Manhattan will continue its road game series as they head down to Howard on Nov. 26. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
