WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Along with the Dr. Sadler Invitational, Manhattan track and field competed at the Monmouth Winter Invitational on Saturday.
On the men's side, Justin Jordaens won the 800m in a time of 1:57.58. Jordaens finished 1.6 seconds clear of second place. It was the junior's second win in the event this season.
The Jaspers recorded two other top-five finishes. Brendan Chan finished second (9:26.94) in the 3000m, and Hayden Gretczko came home fifth (1.70m) in the high jump.
Jaxon Newton crossed the line in 4:28.57 to finish seventh in the mile. Alex Bilello finished eighth in both the long jump and triple jump. The other top-10 finish was Brian Oduor in 10th in the long jump.
For the women on Saturday, Bella Cannizzo won the 3000m in a time of 11:05.64. It was the freshman's second top-five finish and fourth top-10 in the event this season.
Five other Jaspers recorded top-five finishes on Saturday. Anya Alfonsetti-Terry finished third in the high jump (1.45m) and qualified for the 60m hurdles finals in fifth with a 9.84. Natalia Cieslak finished third in the weight throw (12.25m). Ava Kowal crossed the line in fourth (1:33.00) in the 500m. Makayla Dorvil and Isabella Sing recorded fifth-place finishes. Dorvil was fifth in the triple jump (10.60m), and Sing was fifth in the long jump (5.16m).
Manhattan also picked up top-10 finishes in the 800m from Nicole Kelch and the triple jump through Hannah Harrington.
Manhattan returns to Monmouth on Sunday for the second day of the Monmouth Winter Invitational.
