Decker Takes First in Weight Throw at Ramapo Opener

NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Manhattan men's track and field team made their 2023 debut at the Armory on Friday, running in the Ramapo Opener, winning two field events on the afternoon.

RJ Decker took home a first-place finish this afternoon in the weight throw, finishing with a top mark of 19.31 meters.

In the high jump, the Jaspers Ivan Lytovchenko earned a first-place finish with a top leap of 2.01.

The 4x400 team of Alonzo, Jefferson, Simard and Brian Odour took first, finish the relay race in 3:20.96.

Kaya Simpson won his preliminary round in the 60m hurdles and then ran to a third-place finish overall with a time of 8.44.

Michael Hennelly took second place in the 5000m, finishing in 14:50.67. Harrison Alonzo and Noah Jefferson finished in third and fourth in the 400m, crossing the finish line in 50.50 and 50.71 respectively.

The 600m featured Andrew Simard taking a second-place (1:22.22) finish while Johnelle Joe took fifth place (1:23.47) in the same event. Jaxon Newton finished the 3000m in 8:48.09, which was good for third place. Justin Jordaens left the Armory with a fourth-place finish in the mile, finishing in 4:21.12

The Jaspers race again next week in the Dr. Sander Invite from Friday, Jan. 27-28.
