Davis's Career Day Powers Jaspers Past Saints

RIVERDALE, N.Y. – Dee Dee Buckets was in full effect Thursday against Siena. In front of a crowd of over 1,200, Dee Dee Davis powered the Jasper offense with a career-high 37 points in a 78-53 victory over Siena.

With the win, the Jaspers improve to 6-10 overall and 3-4 in the the MAAC. Siena's four-game win streak ended and fell to 10-6 and 4-2 in the MAAC.

"We hadn't been playing our best basketball," added Davis after the game. "We know that other people know that. But we really wanted to raise our standards for ourselves. We know we are better than what we have been producing. The best thing about this basketball season is there is always another day. Today was an opportunity to improve, and we did that, so I'm really proud of this ball club."

Davis was unstoppable right from the opening tip, posting a monster 17 points in the first quarter. The party started with a triple on the Jaspers' first offensive possession. Davis continued to heat up, connecting on a pair of layups. From there, she caught fire. It did not matter what the Saints did defensively, as the Jaspers took a 26-12 lead into the second quarter.

The fire kept burning in the second quarter. The first basket of the quarter came from non-other than the Bronx native, who connected on her signature pull-up jumper. Brazil Harvey-Carr added five points before Davis got back on the board with a layup. Davis then scored 12 of the Jaspers' last 14 points in the quarter to give her 28, her previous season-high, to send Manhattan into halftime with a 49-31 advantage.

In the final quarter, Davis hit a pair of free throws for points 36 and 37, surpassing her previous career-high of 35 points which she recorded in last year's MAAC Championship game against Fairfield.

"I challenged them to be the veteran team today," said head coach Heather Vulin following the win. "I understand we have had adversity; we don't have two of our top-three scorers, but I felt that our experience and understanding of what we need to do today. I felt they executed the game plan outstandingly. Dee Dee (Davis) was sensational today."

"I felt like we took in-rhythm shots. We shared the basketball, and we didn't settle. Brazil and Dee Dee were shooting the ball well from three, so you let them shoot when they are shooting like that. I thought we did a good job of getting to the rim and getting some good shot opportunities today."

Davis had help from the rest of the Green and White this afternoon. Jade Blagrove hauled her first double-double of the season, contributing 12 points and 10 rebounds. Harvey-Carr turned in 17 points while Helena Galunic scored eight points on a perfect 4-4 from the field.

In addition to her new career-high in points, Davis turned in her fifth double-double of the year, hauling in 11 rebounds. The 37 points are the most any player in the MAAC has scored in a game this season.

The Green and White shot an impressive 46.2-percent from the field (30-65) and a better 47.4-percent from downtown (9-19). The 78 points were a season-high and the most points the Jaspers had scored since Feb. 17, 2022, when they dropped 82 on Canisius. The nine triples are the most the team has made this season.

Manhattan has this Saturday off but travels up to Western New York for road matchups with Niagara and Canisius next week.
