Jaspers Fourth After First Day of MAAC Championships

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. – The Manhattan men's track and field team are fourth after the first day of the 2022 MAAC Championships with 21 points.
 
Monmouth leads the men's field with 58 points after five scored events. 

On Saturday, the men scored 13 points in the hammer throw and eight more in the 10k.
 
RJ Decker won the hammer throw with a best of 56.99m. The sophomore was seven meters (30 feet) clear of second place. Joseph Pelio finished sixth in the hammer (45.55m).
 
The other point scorer for the Jaspers was Pelle Nogueira in the 10k. The graduate student crossed the line at 29:55.65 to finish second. The top two finishers were the lone runners to finish in under 30 minutes.
 
Kaya Simpson qualified for the 110 and 400m hurdle finals. Simpson qualified in seventh for both.
 
Darion Lopez will race in the final of the 400m. Lopez qualified in sixth with a time of 49.63.
 
Manhattan had Marc Carrera and Travis Delaney qualify for the 800m final. Carrera was the top qualifier in a time of 1:52.48. Delaney qualified seventh (1:55.51).
 
The action resumes Sunday at 10 a.m. for the final day of the MAAC Championships.
