LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. – The Manhattan men's track and field team finished second at the Rider Invitational on Saturday.
The Jaspers scored 96 points. Rider won the team competition with 190 points.
Anu Awonusi and RJ Decker took home wins in the shot put and hammer. Awonusi recorded a best of 15.49m, and Decker recorded a best of 61.20m, which is an IC4A mark and is 0.03m off his season-best and the best mark in the MAAC this season.
Pelle Nogueira won the 5000m on the track in a time of 14:45.48. The graduate student was three seconds clear of the field. Dom Boccia, Ryan Tierney, Marc Carrera, and Travis Delaney took the top spot in the 4x800m relay in a time of 7:42.93. The quartet was two-tenths ahead of the foursome from Marist.
Michael Hennelly made it two Jaspers in the top three of the 5000m with his time of 14:49.49.
Darian Lopez recorded fourth-place finishes in the 200m (22.17) and the 400m (49.29). Manhattan also collected a pair of point-scoring finishes in the 800m and the 400m hurdles.
Back on the field, Awonusi added a fifth-place finish in the discus to his win in the shot put. Peter Athanailos scored twice for the Jaspers—shot put (4th) and discus (8th)—on Saturday. Decker came home seventh in the javelin, and Joseph Pelio was sixth in the hammer.
Manhattan returns to action next week at the Penn Relays, West Point Twilight, and the TCNJ Invitational.
