WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Manhattan closed its regular season by limiting Monmouth to 12 shots on goal and forcing 19 turnovers in an 11-4 win for the Jaspers.
Offensively, Manhattan (6-6, 4-2 MAAC) got five goals from
Sean MacKinney and four points from
Jake Nicolosi.
After leading 4-2 at the half, Manhattan saw its lead cut in half with 6:17 remaining in the third on a goal from Nick Teets. The Jaspers outscored the Hawks 7-1 for the remaining 21-plus minutes.
MacKinney netted his third of the afternoon to restore the two-goal lead with 3:43 to play in the third. The goal would start a four-goal by the Jaspers. MacKinney, Nicolosi, and
Justin Malpica added the other goals in the run.
Monmouth got their fourth of the day with 9:37 to play.
Nicolosi completed his hat trick with two inside the final 130 seconds. MacKinney added the finishing touch with 39 seconds remaining.
The Hawks fired 32 shots, and 12 made it to
Brendan Krebs in goal, making eight saves for the Jaspers. The Jaspers were credited with seven caused turnovers too.
Manhattan will wait to see how results around the MAAC shake out to see where the Jaspers fit into the conference tournament picture.
