Jaspers Split Thursday Doubleheader At Stony Brook

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Manhattan split Thursday's doubleheader at Stony Brook. The Jaspers defeated the Seawolves 4-3 in game one before losing the second game 6-1.   
  
Game 1: Manhattan 4, Stony Brook 3 
Manhattan (7-24) took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Megan Hedlund hit a three-run home run to right field, bringing home Kaitlyn Flood and Lauren Rende.  
 
Stony Brook (22-12) answered with a pair of runs of their own. The Seawolves scored one unearned and another off a double down the left-field line. 
 
In the top of the third, the Jaspers right fielder Ava Metzger singled up the middle to bring Hedlund home. Stony Brook added one run in the inning, making it a 4-3 game at the start of the fourth. Neither team would score again in the game.  
  
Hedlund ended the game going 2-for-3, with one home run and three RBI. Rende went 2-for-4, with one run scored.  
 
Jessie Rising pitched a complete game for the Jaspers and had five strikeouts on the day.  
  
Game 2: Stony Brook 6, Manhattan 1
Stony Brook (23-12) led 1-0 after the first innings before adding five more in a decisive fifth and sixth inning to top Manhattan 6-1 in the second game.  
  
Manhattan (7-25) scored their lone run in the top of the fourth inning. Hedlund added her second home run on the day. The two home runs jump the sophomore's season total to five.   
 
Rende, Rising, and Gabriella Mazzotta added hits for the Green and White. Marika Deemer pitched five innings and tallied two strikeouts.  
  
The Jaspers return to MAAC play on Saturday at Gaelic Park when they welcome Monmouth for a senior day doubleheader starting at 12 p.m.
