Manhattan Clipped by Marist on Senior Day

RIVERDALE, N.Y. – Manhattan led at the half before Marist used a six-goal third quarter to win 13-12 on Saturday afternoon at Gaelic Park.
 
Marist (5-7, 3-1 MAAC) scored the first five goals of the third quarter to turn a 9-6 Manhattan (5-6, 3-2) lead at the half into an 11-9 deficit for the Jaspers. The five goals came over four minutes and were scored by five different Red Foxes.
 
Sean MacKinney stopped the run for the Jaspers with his 14th of the season with 4:44 remaining in the third. James Lyons scored his second of the game for Marist with two minutes left in the quarter to restore a two-goal (12-10) advantage for Marist.
 
Both teams went scoreless for the first nine minutes of the fourth. Justin Malpica found Liam Walshe to get Manhattan within 12-11 with 5:55 to go. Lyons answered for the Red Foxes less than a minute later.
 
The Jaspers did get a man-up opportunity with less than 90 seconds to play. Anthony Novellano, the Red Foxes' starting goalie, was whistled for a penalty. Daniel O'Mara came off the bench and stopped Kyle Gucwa with less than a minute remaining with the score 13-11 Marist.
 
Walshe finished with four points—two goals and two assists. MacKinney tallied a hat trick for Manhattan. Eight different Jaspers found the scoresheet. Brendan Krebs made 11 saves in goal for the Jaspers.
 
Before the game, the men's lacrosse program honored its six seniors.
 
On Friday, April 22, Manhattan returns to action at Monmouth in the regular-season finale for the Jaspers.
