Manhattan Suffers Road Loss to Canisius

BUFFALO, N.Y. – Manhattan had four players score in double figures, but it was not enough on Sunday afternoon as Canisius came away with the 77-70 win.

Jose Perez had a game-high 22 points after scoring a career-high 38 on Friday night. Romar Reid and Josh Roberts had 13, while Elijah Buchanan put in 10 for Manhattan (11-9, 4-7 MAAC).

Jordan Henderson had 19 points to lead a trio from Canisius (8-16, 4-9) in double figures.

The Jaspers built a seven-point first-half lead with a 10-2 run over five minutes. Buchanan and Roberts supplied eight of the 10. Defensively, the Jaspers held the Golden Griffins to 1-8 shooting and forced three turnovers.

The home team's 7-1 run immediately followed to make it 22-21 Manhattan. The Golden Griffins would take the lead for good on Xzavier Long dunk to make 29-27 with 2:50 to play in the opening half.

Reid did go the entire length of the court to beat the first-half horn to make it 38-34 at the break.

Manhattan hit four free throws to get back within four, 55-51, just past half in the second half before Canisius created separation. The Golden Griffins used a 12-4 stretch over 5:29 to a 67-55 lead—its largest—and put the game out of reach.

The Jaspers would make it a two-possession game with less than a minute to play but could not get closer.

For Reid, it was his second game in double figures this season. The junior had 15 at Utah. Perez eclipsed 20 points for the 10th time this season, most in the MAAC.

It is a quick turnaround for Manhattan. The Jaspers visit Rider on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
