Jaspers Storm Back to Take Down Seahawks

RIVERDALE, N.Y. – An 11-goal second half lifted the Manhattan women's lacrosse team past Wagner, 14-11, in the home opener for the Jaspers on Wednesday.
 
Manhattan (1-1) scored six in the third and five in the fourth quarter to come back against Wagner (1-1). Grace Lipponer added seven points for the Jaspers. 
 
The Seahawks led 8-3 at the half, but the Jaspers managed to chip away at the Seahawks lead. Meghan Rodino scored her fourth goal of the game to tie the game at ten with the help of a Lipponer assist. Annie Freshour followed suit and scored an unassisted goal a minute later to take the lead. 
 
The Jaspers' eight straight goals spanning the third and fourth quarters built the home side a 13-10 advantage. Wagner would respond with one goal with 3:52 in the game to make the score 13-11. Manhattan's Ashley Bonitch scored another goal for the green and white to make the final score 14-11.
 
Grace Lipponer had three goals and four assists. Julianna Iovine added a goal and two assists. Annie Freshour secured two goals for the green and white.
 
Ashley Gambardella stopped twelve shots to earn the win for the Jaspers.
 
Up next for Manhattan is a road contest against Delaware State. The Jaspers and Hornets will kick off Saturday at 2:00 pm.
