NEW YORK – The Manhattan men's track and field team finished fourth at the 2022 MAAC Championships.
Anu Awonusi made it a sweep in the throwing events for the Jaspers. Awonusi won the shot put on Sunday night after
RJ Decker won the weight throw on Saturday. The graduate student claimed gold with a mark of 16.96m, which was a meter in front of second place. It is the fourth win this season for Awonusi.
The other top-three finishes for the Jaspers on Sunday came in the 4x400m relay.
Harrison Alonzo,
Darion Lopez, Brian Saul, and
Brian Oduor were third in a time of 3:22.41. It is the fastest time by Manhattan in the event this season.
Peter Athanailos was sixth in the shot put (14.01m).
Marc Carrera crossed the line in 6
th in the mile (4:14.02), and
Kaya Simpson was sixth in the 60m hurdles (8.59).
Manhattan got seventh place finishes in the 60m dash from
Dean Niosi,
Pelle Nogueira in the 3k, and in the 4x800m relay.
Justin Jordaens was eighth in the 800m.
The Jaspers finished with 53.5 points in fourth. Monmouth won the team championship with 205 points.
