Jaspers Defeat Monmouth for Fourth Straight Win

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J.- Manhattan won its fourth straight and picked up its 12th conference win beating Monmouth, 73-63, on Saturday afternoon.
  
Manhattan (17-9, 12-5 MAAC) scored the first 5 points of the game and managed to keep that lead for all but twenty seconds of the game. After the first, Manhattan led Monmouth 12-8, with seven coming from Dee Dee Davis. The run extended into the second when Manhattan scored six unanswered points to lead 18-8 less than three minutes in

Monmouth (13-11, 8-7) managed to close the gap to two and end the half with a score of 26-24. Davis scored nine of her 21 points in the first half. Brazil Harvey-Carr tallied four of her 16 in the opening two quarters. The Green and White scored twenty of its 26 points in the paint. 
 
The Jaspers proved to be resilient in the third when Monmouth cut the lead to a single possession. The Green and White stormed back and scored five unanswered points to maintain their lead. The Jaspers fended off the Hawks and built a lead to 10 with five minutes to play in the fourth. The Green and White preserved their lead and won with a final score of 73-63. 

Manhattan defended its reputation as a nationally ranked rebounding team by grabbing 37 rebounds. Additionally, the Jaspers forced 19 turnovers that led to 24 points. The Green and White added eight steals, four blocks, and 16 fast break points. 
 
Davis finished with a game-high 21 points and five rebounds. Harvey-Carr added a double-double at 16 points and 10 rebounds. Jenna Jordan also had 12 points and three rebounds.

Manhattan limited Monmouth to 36-percent shooting and only 10-25 from inside the 3-point line.
 
Manhattan returns to action on Saturday in Riverdale against Fairfield. The Stags and Jaspers tip at 2 p.m. on ESPN3.
