Men's Track & Field Fourth After Day 1 of MAAC Championships

NEW YORK – The Manhattan men's track and field team sit fourth after the first day of the 2022 MAAC Championships.
 
On Friday, RJ Decker won the weight throw to supply 10 points for the Jaspers. The sophomore remains undefeated (6-0) when recording a mark during the indoor season. Decker was close to two meters clear of the field Saturday.
 
On Saturday, the Jaspers also scored points in the 5000m, DMR, and pole vault.
 
In the 5k, Pelle Nogueira finished fourth, and David Lozipone was sixth. Nogueira crossed the line in 14:32.75 and was six seconds off third. The time is a new collegiate-best for the senior. Lozipone came across the line precisely five seconds later with a new collegiate-best.
 
Dom Boccia, Harrison Alonzo, Travis Delaney, and Ryan Tierney contested the DMR. The quartet stopped the clock in 10:13.04 to finish sixth. The time is a season-best by close to 38 seconds by a Jasper team.
 
Jackson Haft finished eighth in the pole vault. The sophomore cleared 3.90m to secure a half-point for the Jaspers.
 
Manhattan qualified for the finals in the 60m dash, 60m hurdles, 800m, and the mile from the prelims on Saturday.
 
Dean Niosi advanced to the 60m dash finals with a 7.10. Kaya Simpson will run the 60m hurdles final tomorrow after qualifying in sixth (8.55). Justin Jordaens qualified eighth (1:54.56) in the 800m. Marc Carrera qualified sixth in the mile (4:19.04). Jordaens' time is a new collegiate-best for the freshman.
 
Monmouth leads the men's standings with 79 points.

The second and final day of the 2022 MAAC Championships is tomorrow at The Armory. Events start at 5 p.m.
