ORLANDO, Fla. - Manhattan wrapped up its season, falling to Rider 3-1 in the Opening Round of the MAAC Championship. The final scores of the sets were 25-10, 25-15, 21-25, and 25-14.
After losing the first and second sets, the Jaspers rallied for the third and fought to win the set, falling in the fourth.Â
The set opened with the Broncs taking a five-point lead against the Jaspers. This run was broken by a
Lizzi Brown kill, followed by a service ace by the freshman,
Teresa Garza. The set went back and forth until
Kelly Markowski scored a kill, kicking off a 10-3 Jaspers run, putting the Jaspers within three at 19-16. The Jaspers sprung back after the Rider kill and went on another run, scoring eight of the last nine points. The Jaspers scored the final point in the set off a kill by
Sarah Emmons for the win in the third set over the Broncs.Â
With the momentum of the previous set, the Jaspers scored the first three points in the fourth set off three attack errors in a row by the Broncs. This lead was short-lived, however, with Rider's offense kicking into gear, carrying them to a 25-14 victory in the fourth set, taking the match 3-1 from the Jaspers.Â
