Volleyball Swept by Rider Wednesday

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. – Manhattan fell in three sets at Rider on Wednesday. The set scores were 25-17, 25-12, and 25-8.

Camila Gomez led the Jaspers with 14 kills and 15 digs. It was the first double-double for Gomez this season and the second straight game with 14 kills. It was also the fourth time this year that Gomez has recorded at least 10 digs.

The opening set was tight in the early going. Manhattan (1-18, 1-8 MAAC) fell behind early before taking a 6-5 lead off a Rider (5-13, 3-5 MAAC) attack error. The Broncs responded with a 6-2 stretch to take an 11-8 lead. Manhattan would get to within one, 14-13, after three straight points. However, the Jaspers couldn't tie the set as the Broncs took the opening set.

Rider's offense was in tune in set two. The home team hit .621 in the second set. An ace from Gomez got the Jaspers to within three at 14-11. Then the Broncs ended the set on an 11-1 run.

In set three, the Broncs hit .333 and limited the Jaspers to only five kills compared to six errors. Rider scored the first four points of the set before a kill from Julieanne McKee. Rider would then score six of the next eight points to extend a lead it wouldn't surrender.

McKee had 16 assists and three digs for the Jaspers. Teresa Garza tallied 11 digs.

Manhattan welcomes Iona to Draddy Gymnasium on Saturday for its next game.
