Poughkeepsie, NY – The Manhattan men's and women's cross country teams opened their 2021 seasons at the Marist Opener at Vassar Farm.
Meet Highlights
* The men placed fourth out of six teams in the 6K race, with graduate student Pelle Nogueira leading the way in fifth place with a time of 19:05.66.
* Nogueira was the third MAAC runner to cross the line, and has paced Manhattan in each of his last four cross country meets dating back to the 2019 season.
* Senior Michael Hennelly placed second on the squad and 14th overall with a mark of 19:31.14.
* Rounding out the scorers for the Jaspers were seniors Marc Carrera (19th-19:43.37), Ryan Tierney (28th-20:05.61) and David Lozipone (32nd-20:19.42).
* Sophomore Michael Noonan and freshmen Travis Delaney, Brendan Lucey and Brian Shermar Saul made their collegiate cross country debuts for the Green & White.
* Central Connecticut State won the team title with 35 points, followed by Iona (51), Wagner (77), Manhattan (98), Marist (117) and Siena (120).
* On the women's side, the Jaspers took fifth out of six teams in the 5K race with junior Andria Scaglione leading the way in sixth place with a mark of 18:53.79.
* Scaglione was the second MAAC runner to finish and has led Manhattan in all nine of the Jaspers' competitions over her two-plus seasons.
* She also bettered last year's season-opening 5K time by over 24 seconds.
* Junior Nicola Scaglione was the second Jasper to cross the line, taking 35th with a mark of 20:28.65.
* Rounding out the scorers for Manhattan were senior Hali Ielfield (39th-20:40.37), classmate Shayna Arrigo (42nd-20:53.40) and freshman Kylie Conroy (21:17.80).
* Conroy and classmate Fiona Mohl made their Jasper debuts.
* UConn won the team championship with 31 points, followed by Siena (62), Central Connecticut State (71), Marist (89), Manhattan (138) and Wagner (146).
