Staten Island, NY - Graduate student Sydney Harwood scored twice in the opening half to lead Manhattan to a 2-1 win over Wagner in non-conference action at Hameline Field.
* The Jaspers are now 1-1, while the Seahawks fall to 2-1.
* Wagner was the aggressor over the first 10 minute, putting three shots on goal with senior Kim Mains turning away all three.
* In the 19th minute, senior Eve Montgomery had her shot blocked, but the carom created another opportunity. Harwood collected the rebound, passed it out wide to senior Bri Floyd, whose cross was deflected back out to Harwood and the fifth-year Jasper blasted the ball into the upper right corner to open the scoring.
* Harwood would add to the lead with another score in the 40th minute, as Harwood pushed the ball past the Seahawk keeper into the lower right side following a pair of perfect pass from freshman Brooke Zimmer, who was fed from classmate Corrine Jackson.
* In the second half, Wagner would trim its deficit to 2-1 in the 77th minute.
* The Seahawks would continue to fight and had a scoring opportunity in the 88th minute denied when Mains corralled a loose ball ahead from just in front of the goal.
* Wagner would have one final opportunity in the 89th minute, but was denied when Mains made her seventh stop of the game en route to evening her record at 1-1.
* Harwood, a defender, notched two goals after scoring just one in her first 50 as a Jasper.
* Entering today, her previous goal against Iona on September 27, 2017 was also a game-winner.
* Manhattan will look to make it two in a row against NEC opposition, when the Jaspers play at LIU on Sunday, September 5 at 1:00 pm.
