Lawrenceville, NJ - Senior Lasma Padedze (Ogre, Latvia / Ogre Secondary School No. 1) won the shot put and classmate Alexandra Preckajlo (Ocean, NJ / St. Rose) captured the discus on day two of the 2021 MAAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
* Junior Nina Bjorkman (Vasteras, Sweden / Widenska Idrottsgymnasium) also had a huge meet, scoring a team-high 20 points over the three throwing events.
* In the discus, the Jaspers went 1-2-3 en route to registering 24 points in the event. Preckajlo notched a throw of 47.38 meters in capturing the win, with Bjorkman in second (46.02 meters) and Padedze in third (44.24 meters).
* Earlier in the morning, Padedze captured gold in the shot put with a throw of 14.39 meters, with Preckajlo in second with a mark of 13.86 meters and Bjorkman fifth with a personal-best throw of 13.35 meters.
* On the track, junior Marc Carrera (Staten Island, NY / St. Peter's) placed third in the 1500 meters with a personal-best time of 3:51.06.
* Senior Alexander (A.J.) Moore (Colonia, NJ / John F. Kennedy) also set a career-best, clocking a blazing 49.24 in taking fourth in the 400-meter dash.
* Sophomore Andria Scaglione (Oceanside, NY / Oceanside) took seventh in the 5000 meters (17:18.65), senior Zarah Harris (Montgomery, NY / Valley Central) was seventh in the 400 meters (59.70).
* The 4x400 meter relay team of Harris, junior Shayna Arrigo (Farmingville, NY / Sachem East), sophomore Rory Graham (Burnt Hills, NY / Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) and senior Gabby Fanning (Cornwall, NY / Cornwall Central) placed fifth in 4:04.58 while bettering their seed time by over two seconds.
* Sophomore Kaya Simpson (Edgewood, MD / Harford Technical), sophomore Noah Jefferson (Ossining, NY / Ossining), junior Seth Goitia (New Windsor, NY / Cornwall Central) and freshman Dean Niosi (Staten Island, NY / Monsignor Farrell) ran a 42.30 in the 4x100 meter relay in finishing third.
* In the 4x800 meter relay, the quartet of junior Ryan Tierney (Staten Island, NY / St. Peter''s), Carrera, freshman Justin Jordaens (Yonkers, NY / Fordham Prep) and sophomore Quemarii Williams (Danville, IL / Danville) registered a mark of 7:42.15 in finishing third.
* The 4x400 relay team of Goitia, Moore, Jefferson and freshman Monte Gutierrez (New York, NY / Cardinal Hayes) also finished third, clocking a season-best time of 3:19.92.
* As a team, the Jaspers finished fourth on the women's side with 83 points, and fifth on the men's side with 40 points.
