Poughkeepsie, NY - Manhattan dropped a doubleheader to Marist by scores of 7-5 and 7-2 at McCann Field.
With the setbacks, the Jaspers are now 9-21, while the Red Foxes improve to 13-7.
Game One
Manhattan battled back from a seven-run to make things interesting, before ultimately falling by a 7-5 count.
Trailing 7-0 after four innings, the Jaspers finally got on the board in the fifth inning.
Junior
Sam Franco (Bardonia, NY / Clarkstown South) got aboard via a one-out walk, before classmate
Nick Cimillo (Airmont, NY / Suffern) blasted a home run to left field to trim the deficit to 7-2.
In the top of the seventh, the visitors batted around while making things interesting. With one out, Franco hit a two-run shot of his own to make it a 7-4 game while forcing the Red Foxes to the bullpen.
Cimillo was then plunked, before senior
Matt Padre (Flemington, NJ / Hunterdon Central) drew a walk and graduate student
Richie Barrella (Larchmont, NY / Canterbury Prep) followed with a RBI single to make it a 7-5 game.
Freshman
Trevor Santos (Nutley, NJ / Nutley) then drew a two-out walk to load up the bases. Unfortunately, that would be as close as Manhattan would get.
Franco went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI, while Barrella was 2-for-4 with a RBI to lead a seven-hit attack.
Freshman LHP
Ryan Doherty (Hamden, CT / Hamden Hall) was solid out of the pen, striking out three over 2.1 hitless frames of relief.
Game Two
Marist took the second game by a 7-2 score.
Trailing 3-0 in the sixth, Manhattan got on the board when Padre plated junior
Lewi Clarke (Saratoga Springs, NY / Saratoga Springs) with a RBI ground out. Cimillo would later score in the frame on an error to make it a one-run game.
Marist would answer with two runs in the bottom part of the frame, before scoring twice more in the eighth in providing the final 7-2 score.
Barrella, Cimillo, sophomore
Alfredo Delgado (Bronx, NY / Fordham Prep), senior
Jake Knop (Portland, ME / Portland) and Santos all hit safely.
Manhattan will conclude the 2021 MAAC Regular Season next weekend at home against Saint Peter's, with first pitch tabbed for Saturday doubleheader slated for 12:00 pm.
