Manhattan Splits At Marist

- Manhattan split a doubleheader at Marist, winning game one by an 8-6 count before losing the nightcap 6-5.

* With the split, the Jaspers are 9-19 while the Red Foxes are 11-7.

Game One
* Manhattan scored six runs in its first two trips to the plate en route to registering an 8-6 victory over Marist.

* The Jaspers plated two in the first with a pair of runs thanks to a Richie Barrella (GS, Larchmont, NY / Canterbury Prep) bases-loaded walk, and a Jonathan Barditch (Jr., Miami, FL / Belen Jesuit Prep) sacrifice fly.

* In the top of the second, Manhattan broke the game open with four more runs on the strength of another Barrella bases-loaded walk, a Barditch two-run single and a Trevor Santos (Fr., Nutley, NJ / Nutley) RBI single.

* Barditch was back at it in the sixth, as his RBI double scored senior Matt Padre (Flemington, NJ / Hunterdon Central) in extending the advantage out to 7-0.

* Marist, which was hitless through the first five innings, finally broke through with three runs in the bottom of the sixth. 

* Sophomore Alfredo Delgado (Bronx, NY / Fordham Prep) got one run back in the seventh inning with a solo home run.

* The Red Foxes rallied with three more runs in their last trip to the plate, but was unable to further dent the scoreboard.

* Graduate student RHP Logan Muratalla (San Dimas, CA / Mt. San Antonio) earned his second win of the year, striking out eight while yielding three runs on three hits over 6.0 innings.

* Barditch finished up 2-for-4 with a double and four RBI, while Barrella walked three times, and earned RBI on two of his free passes.

Game  Two
* Manhattan dropped a hard-fought 6-5 decision in the nightcap.

* Junior Lewi Clarke (Saratoga Springs, NY / Saratoga Springs) opened the scoring in the second, when his RBI ground out plated Santos.

* Marist would take its first lead of the weekend with five runs in the fifth, before pushing the advantage out to 6-1 in the seventh.

* Delgado got one run back in the top of the eighth with a RBI single to center.

* In the top of the ninth, Manhattan scored three runs on a two-run single from Santos, and a RBI ground out from senior Jake Knop (Portland, ME / Portland), but stranded the tying runner at second.

* Barrella was 4-for-4 with two runs, while Santos finished up 3-for-5 with two RBI and a run to lead the Jaspers at the plate.

* The teams will conclude their series tomorrow with a 12:00 pm doubleheader.
