Fayetteville, AR - No. 6 Arkansas posted an 8-0 win over Manhattan in five innings in the 2021 Fayetteville Regional opener in front of 1,862 fans at Bogle Park.
* The Jaspers are now 22-15, while Arkansas improves to 41-9.
* Manhattan will next square off with Stanford tomorrow at 4:30 pm (EST) in an elimination game.
* Sophomore
Lauren Rende (Ardsley, NY / Ardsley) singled and walked to lead the way for the Jaspers, while senior
Emma Kindblom (Wilbraham, MA / Wilbraham and Monson Academy) registered the only other hit for the visitors against SEC Co-Pitcher of the Year Mary Haff.
* Rende opened the game with a leadoff single, but was stranded at first base as senior
Daniela Chiorazzi's (Stony Point, NY / North Rockland) blast was corralled at the warning track.
* Graduate student
Nicole Williams (Ansonia, CT / St. Joseph's) then set the vaunted Razorback offense down in order in the bottom of the first.
* In the bottom of the second, Arkansas got on the board on Aly Manzo's two-out RBI single that plated Linnie Malkin, who had doubled with one out.
* Kindblom then singled to right field with one out in the third, but was thrown out at second thanks to an incredible catch-and-tag play by second baseman Keely Huffine.
* The Razorbacks added to the lead with two runs in the bottom of the frame, but the damage could have been worse as Arkansas began the frame by loading the bases with no out.
* Hannah Gammill opened the scoring with a sacrifice fly, as Huffine narrowly avoided
Jessie Rising's (Little Egg Harbor, NJ / Pinelands) throw from right field. Malkin capped the scoring with a two-out RBI single.
* After Manhattan was retired in order in the top of the fourth, Williams was able to follow suit with her second 1-2-3 frame of the game.
* The Jaspers again went in order in the top of the fifth, before the Razorbacks showed the Jaspers why they are the No. 6 National Seed.
* Hannah McEwen led off with a double, and Braxton Burnside followed with a bloop single to give Arkansas runners at the corners with no outs.
* Rende then made a fantastic play at short to get the first out, and Williams was lifted for the bullpen.
* Unfortunately, Manhattan yielded five runs from that point in dropping its Fayetteville Regional opener.
* Williams (13-3) was saddled with the loss, yielding five runs on seven hits over 4.1 innings.
* The Jaspers are now 0-3, all-time, in regional play and were playing in their first NCAA game in exactly 22 years against LIU.
* The start of the game was delayed for two hours, which allowed both teams to partake in a game of Hangman.
* McEwen finished up 2-for-3 with two doubles and two runs, while Malkin was 2-for-2 with a double, walk, two RBI and a run.
* Haff improved to 24-6 on the year, striking out five while yielding two hits and a walk over 5.0 innings.
