Manhattan Sweeps Saint Peter's On Senior Day

- Manhattan celebrated Senior Day with a doubleheader sweep of Saint Peter's at VCP, winning game one by a 4-3 count and game two 12-1.

With the sweep, the Jaspers improve to 11-21 while the Peacocks fall to 3-22 and 3-24 in the MAAC. 

Game One
* The Green & White held off a late Saint Peter's rally in winning the opener by a 4-3 count.

* Manhattan struck first with a second-inning run.

* Junior Jonathan Barditch (Miami, FL / Belen Jesuit Prep) reached via a one-out single, stole second and advanced to third on a ground out. Sophomore Alfredo Delgado (Bronx, NY / Fordham Prep) then plated Barditch with a two-strike single to left field.

* Graduate Student RHP Logan Muratalla (San Dimas, CA / Mt. San Antonio) cruised through the first four innings, retiring all 12 batters he faced in order, before yielding a leadoff single in the fifth.

* Saint Peter's finally got to Muratalla with a two-out rally in the top of the sixth and tied up the score at 1-1.

* Junior Nick Cimillo (Airmont, NY / Suffern) reclaimed the lead for the Jaspers with a two-out, three-run home run in the bottom part of the frame, plating senior Jake Knop (Portland, ME / Portland), who led off with a double, and junior Sam Franco (Bardonia, NY / Clarkstown South), who was intentionally walked.

* The Peacocks would get a pair back in the seventh, but were unable to get any closer as Brendan Shamieh (Whippany, NJ / Rochester) got the final three outs in registering his second save of the year.

* Cimillo went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI to pace an eight-hit attack.

* Muratalla (3-4) earned his third-straight victory, striking out five, against no walks, while yielding one run on four hits over 6.0 innings.

Game Two
* Manhattan took the nightcap over Saint Peter's by a score of 12-1 as nine different regulars hit safely.

* Franco belted his team-best seventh home run, while Delgado blasted his fourth home run as the duo combined to go 4-for-7 with five RBI and three runs.

* Barditch went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs, while junior Lewi Clarke (Saratoga Springs, NY / Saratoga Springs) was 2-for-4 with two doubles and a run to join Franco and Delgado with multiple-hits

* Graduate student Richie Barrella (Larchmont, NY / Canterbury Prep) was 1-for-2 with two RBI, while Knop was also 1-for-2 with two runs and Cimillo 1-for-3 with a double and two runs to round out the top performers on offense..

* Junior LHP Jack Mahoney (Latham, NY / Stony Brook) earned the win, striking out four while yielding one run on one hit over 4.0 innings in moving to 2-4 on the year.

* Sophomore Justin Solimine (Danbury, CT / Danbury) fired 2.0 scoreless frames, and graduate student RHP Jack Kelly (Yorktown Heights, NY / Yorktown) a scoreless seventh to highlight a solid performance by the Jasper pitchers.

* The teams will conclude their series tomorrow at VCP with a 12:00 pm doubleheader.
