Rider Takes Two From Manhattan

Box Score (GM2) | Box Score (GM1)

Riverdale, NY – Manhattan dropped both ends of a doubleheader to Rider by scores of 6-1 and 9-3 at VCP.

The Jaspers are now 1-7, while the Broncs are 9-3.

Game Two
Rider scored eight unanswered runs in posting a 9-3 win over Manhattan in the series finale.

After the Broncs plated a run in their first trip to the plate, the Jaspers answered with a run in the bottom of the first on a Cimillo line-drive single.

The Green & White then took a 3-1 lead in the second thanks to a Michael Campbell (So., Larchmont, NY / Mamaroneck) RBI double and a Jonathan Barditch (So., Miami, FL / Belen Jesuit Prep) RBI fielder's choice grounder.

From that point it would be all Rider, though Manhattan kept the pressure on throughout, but was denied thanks to some clutch pitching by the visitors.

Graduate student Richie Barrella (Larchmont, NY / Canterbury Prep), senior Will Trochiano (Morganville, NJ / Marlboro) and Barditch all registered two hits to pace a nine-hit Jasper offense.

Sophomore RHP Kyle Lesler (Clifton, NY / Clifton) was solid in relief, striking out four, against two walks, while yielding one earned run on three hits over 4.0 innings.

Game One
Rider defeated Manhattan by a 6-1 count in the opener.

In defeat, the Jaspers outhit the Broncs by an 8-4 count.

Trochiano homered and reached base safely three times to pace the offense, while classmate Matt Padre (Flemington, NJ / Hunterdon Central) and sophomore Pete Durocher (Emerson, NJ / Emerson Junior-Senior) each had two hits.

Graduate student Logan Muratalla (San Dimas, CA / Mt. San Antonio) was solid, striking out six, against four walks, while yielding four earned runs on four hits over 5.0 innings.

Sophomore RHP Ryan Doherty (Hamden, CT / Hamden Hall) faced the minimum over 2.0 innings of hitless relief with two strikeouts.

Manhattan will next host Iona in doubleheader action on Wednesday, April 7 with first pitch tabbed for 12:00 pm.
