Manhattan Splits Season Opener At Quinnipiac

 Manhattan split its season-opening doubleheader at Quinnipiac, winning a dramatic five-set thriller in the nightcap, after dropping the first in four.

Match Two
Sophomore Kelly Markowski's (Winter Park, FL / Lake Highland Preparatory) fifth-set kill was the difference in the second match, as the Jaspers posted a hard-fought 25-17, 18-25, 28-26, 14-25, 15-13 victory.

Trailing 6-2 in the fifth deciding set, Manhattan took control with a 9-1 run, highlighted by six-straight points, to take control of the match.

Senior Erin Hoener (St. Louis, MO / Incarnate Word) led the way on offense with 13 kills, on .429 hitting, to go along with eight blocks, as freshman Bianca Vieira (Land O'Lakes, FL / Land O'Lakes) added 11 kills with 10 digs.

Senior Kai Riner (Kennesaw, GA / Georgia Southern) had a match-high 24 digs, while senior Reyn Hoffman (Ventura, CA / Ventura) handed out 21 assists with 14 digs to highlight the Jasper statistical leaders.

Match One
Manhattan dropped the opener by scores of 25-14, 25-18, 25-20 and 25-12, despite a pair of strong performances from Hoener and senior Meagan Miller (Oakville, Ontario / Oakville Trafalgar).

After dropping the first two sets, the Jaspers hit an impressive .324 clip in the third set, before falling in the fourth.

Hoener recorded 15 kills, on .355 hitting, while Miller registered a career-best 14 kills, on .279 hitting, with four blocks.

Riner had a team-best 14 digs, while Hoffman handed out 21 assists.
