Pelle Nogueira (Glen Head, NJ / TCNJ) earned a spot as an All-MAAC honoree at the 2020-21 MAAC Cross Country Championships, finishing the men's 8K race in 11th place with a time of 25:16.02.
Fueled by his performance, the Manhattan men finished in fifth place, while the Jasper women took eighth.
Meet Highlights:
- Nogueira became Manhattan's first All-MAAC performer on the men's side since Amir Khaghani in 2018.
- His time was over a minute better than his performance (26:20.30) at last year's MAAC meet.
- Junior Liam Farrell (Hyde Park, NY / F.D. Roosevelt) was the next Jasper to cross the line, finishing 35th (26:27.68), followed closely by classmate Michael Hennelly (Suffern, NY / Suffern) in 37th (26:32.11).
- Fellow juniors Marc Carrera (Staten Island, NY / St. Peter's) and Ryan Tierney (Staten Island, NY / St. Peter's) concluded the scoring for the Green & White, taking 46th (26:44.33) and 57th (27:02.62), respectively.
- The Jasper men tallied 156 points as a team, finishing behind Iona (15), Monmouth (77), Rider (94) and Siena (105).
- Sophomore Andria Scaglione (Oceanside, NY / Oceanside) paced the women in the 6k race, finishing 27th with a time of 23:18.30.
- Her sister sophomore Nicola Scaglione (Oceanside, NY / Oceanside) was the second Jasper to cross the line, finishing 46th with a mark of 24:01.11.
- Classmate Rory Graham (Burnt Hills, NY / Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) was the third finisher for the Manhattan women, earning 58th overall with a time of 24:28.98.
- Junior Hali Ielfield (Glenfield, NY / South Lewis Central) was 66th (24:39.57), and Shayna Arrigo (Farmingville, NY / Sachem East) 94th (26:28.51) to round out the scorers for the women, which took eighth with 221 points.
- Iona earned its fifth-straight MAAC Women's Cross Country Championship title thanks to claiming the top three finishers, paced by Gemma Nuttall, the 2020-21 Women's Most Outstanding Runner, who clocked a 21:43.93 over the 6K course.
- The Iona men won their 30th-straight championship, claiming the top seven finishes and eight of the top 10, as Jack O'Leary was named the 2020-21 Men's Most Outstanding Runner with a time of 24:28.10.
