West Long Branch, NJ – Monmouth won yesterday's halted game, before taking the final two games of the series as Manhattan concluded its first series of the year at the MU Baseball Field.
Halted Game
Monmouth added an insurance run in the eighth inning en route to defeating Manhattan 3-1 in the resumption of yesterday's halted game.
The Jaspers scored their first run of the year in their first trip to the plate, as graduate student Richie Barrella (Larchmont, NY / Canterbury Prep) plated Trochiano with an infield single.
Junior LHP Jack Mahoney (Latham, NY / Stony Brook) was solid in his first collegiate start, striking out five while yielding two runs 5.0 innings, while sophomore RHP Justin Solimine (Danbury, CT) was effective out of the bullpen, striking out three while not allowing a walk over 3.0 innings of one-run relief.
Barrella had two of the Green & White's four hits to pace the offense
Game Three
Monmouth scored three runs in the fourth inning en route to posting a 3-1 win over Manhattan.
The Jaspers had runners aboard in all seven frames, and finally broke through in the seventh on senior Matt Padre's (Flemington, NJ / Hunterdon Central) two-out, RBI single. Unfortunately the Green & White could not get any closer, stranding the tying runners on the bases.
Freshman Zahan Meyer (Mount Laurel, NJ / Lenape) had two hits, while Padre reached safely twice to pace a six-hit Manhattan attack.
On the mound, graduate student RHP Jacob Knight (Oakley, CA / Chabot CC) struck out three and yielded three runs, one earned, on one hit over 4.0 innings, while freshman RHP Connor O'Neill (Fairfield, CT / Fairfield Ludlowe) struck out one over 2.0 innings of one-hit relief.
Game Four
LHP Rob Hensey struck out 11 over 7.0 strong innings to lift Monmouth to a 10-0 victory over Manhattan in the finale.
Graduate students Teddy Sabato (Rye, NY / UNC) and Brendan Shamieh (Whippany, NY / Rochester) combined to strike out seven over 5.2 innings of two-hit relief to lead the way for the Jaspers.
Manhattan will next host Rider at VCP on Friday, April 2 at 12:00 pm.
