Fairfield, CT – Junior Vani Patel (Firestone, CO / Herkimer County CC) went 5-for-7 on the day to lead Manhattan to a doubleheader split with Fairfield at the Alumni Softball Field.
The Jaspers took game two 6-1, after dropping the opener 6-1.
Game Two
Manhattan scored two runs in each of the first two frames and took advantage of four Fairfield errors in recording its first win of the season.
For good measure the Jaspers scored two insurance runs in the sixth inning.
Senior Kali Puppolo (Adams, MA / Herkimer County CC) was outstanding in the circle, striking out three, against no walks, while yielding just one run on five hits over 6.1 innings in earning the win.
Freshman Marika Deemer (Perrysburg, OH / Perrysburg) closed out the victory by getting the final two outs.
Patel went 3-for-4 with a run to set the table for an eight-hit attack, while senior Jessie Rising (Little Egg Harbor / Pinelands) was 2-for-3 with a run, and graduate student Christine Gebhardt (Middletown, NJ / Middletown North) scored three runs with a hit to highlight an offensive attack that rapped out eight hits.
Game One
The Stags defeated the Jaspers 6-1 in the opener.
Patel had a double and a triple, while Rising added two hits to lead the way on offense.
Manhattan scored its lone run in the sixth inning when pinch-runner Lily Fish (Fr., Manlius, NY / Fayetteville-Manlius) scored on a pass ball.
Deemer was solid in relief, striking out four while scattering seven hits over 5.0 scoreless frames.
