Jaspers Defeated by Quinnipiac

Riverdale, NY- Manhattan dropped a 90-73 decision to Quinnipiac in MAAC play on Sunday in Draddy Gymnasium. The Jaspers record moves to 6-2 on the season and 1-1 in league play.
 
In a tight first half with four lead changes, Manhattan was able to control the game for eleven minutes, with their largest lead growing to eight. The Jaspers shot 11-26 from the field and 9-10 from the free-throw line. Using their height, the Jaspers would score ten points in the paint and collect seventeen rebounds. The Jaspers' high-intensity play created four steals and six points off turnovers. At the end of the half, the Jaspers would trail the Bobcats 31-33.
 
During the second half, the Bobcats started with a 16-5 run and managed to amass the largest lead with a twenty point differential between the two teams. The Jaspers fought hard to close the gap and were able to narrow the deficit to seven with three minutes left, 78-71. Despite Manhattan's last-minute surge, Quinnipiac maintained the lead for the win.
 
The Jaspers outrebounded the Bobcats 32-31, eleven of them on the offensive side of the court. Seven different Manhattan players scored in tonight's contest. The Jaspers scored 32 total points in the paint and 13 off turnovers.  
 
MAAC Preseason Third Team Selection, senior guard Ant Nelson (New York, NY) had a stellar performance scoring 22 points, four assists, four rebounds, two steals. Nelson went 9-11 from the field and was 81% on the day.
 
Senior forward Jose Perez (Bronx, NY) contributed a team-high 25 points, four rebounds, one steal on the day. Senior Josh Roberts (Troy, AL) grabbed five rebounds two-blocks and nine points.
 
The Bobcats junior guard Matt Balanc (Silver Spring, MD) proved to be difficult to maintain for the Jaspers. Balanc scored a game-high 31 points and four rebounds. Fellow junior Savion Lewis (Dix Hills, NY) ended with 18 points in 35 minutes. Tymu Chenery (Philadelphia, PA) was the third Bobcat to score double digits, ending the night with 12 points. 

The Jaspers will return to action on the road playing Utah on Saturday, December 11 with the opening tip tabbed for 3:00 p.m. MST in Salt Lake City.
