Easton, PA –  The Manhattan Women's Lacrosse team fought for more than the scheduled 60 minutes, but came up just short, as Lafayette posted a 10-9 overtime win on Wednesday evening.

Junior Carmella Liscio (Blauvelt, NY / Tappan Zee) led the Jaspers with five goals. Senior Deb Peifer (Collegeville, PA / Methacton) added two points (1 goal and 1 assist) while freshman Ashley Gambardella (Bethpage, NY / Plainedge) made 10 saves in a losing effort for the Jaspers.

Lafayette opened the scoring 13 minutes into the match, and scored three of the first four goals in opening up a 3-1 lead. Manhattan responded with four straight tallies, including Liscio's second of the day with 5:03 remaining in the half, en route to opening up a 6-5 lead at halftime.

Lafayette regained the lead on an Anna Stein goal at 8-7 with 15:34 to play. The teams traded goals until sophomore Grace Lipponer (Lake Grove, NY / Sachem North) pulled the Jaspers even with a monumental goal, sliding a bounce shot into the back of the net to tie the match at 9-9 with 11 seconds left.

Lafayette and Manhattan played scoreless through the first two overtime sessions before Anna Stein scored her third goal of the day to secure the win for the Leopards.

Manhattan outshot Lafayette 32-27 and committed less turnovers than the Leopards (18-12). Lafayette won the draw control (13-10) and ground ball (20-18) battles.

The Jaspers return to action on Wednesday, March 11 at Sacred Heart, with opening draw slated for 3:00 pm.
