West Long Branch, NJ - Monmouth posted an 80-60 win over Manhattan in MAAC action at OceanFirst Bank Center.
Sophomores
Christian Hinckson (Queens, NY / Tilton School (NH)) scored 13 points, while going a perfect 4-for-4 from long range, while classmate
Warren Williams (Kingston, Jamaica / St. Benedict's Prep (NJ)) matched Hinckson with 13 points with five rebounds and three steals to pace four double-figure scorers.
The Hawks improve to 17-12 and 11-6 in the MAAC, while the Jaspers fall to 12-15 and 8-10 in the league.
Monmouth raced out of the gates and led 29-11 with 8:49 to play in the stanza, before Williams hit a layup, and Hinckson back-to-back triples. Samuel Chaput connected on a pair from the line to briefly quell the Manhattan momentum. Sophomore
Tykei Greene (Queens, NY / Long Island Lutheran) then converted a three-point play and
Michael Okafor (Jr., Toronto, Ontario / Harcum College) a layup to cap a 13-2 run that trimmed the Hawk deficit to seven.
After halftime, Manhattan would trim the deficit to six on three occasions but was unable to get any closer. Monmouth would create separation with a game-changing 20-5 run midway through the second stanza as the lead would reach 25.
Also stanading out for the Jaspers, was senior
Pauly Paulicap (Elmont, NY / Harcum College) scored 11 points with a team-best seven rebounds and five blocks. Greene rounded out the double-figure scorers for the Green & White with 11 points, five rebounds and four steals.
The Hawks shot a blistering 51.0 percent (25-of-49), while posting a 38-32 advantage on the glass, and were led by Deion Hammond's game-high 18 points.
Manhattan will play at Rider on Wednesday, March 4 at 7:00 pm.
